THE EXAMPLE OF JESUS

Matthew 26:36-39
36 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, "Sit here while I go and pray over there."
37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed.
38 Then He said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me."
39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will." 

Matthew 26:42
42 Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done." 

Matthew 26:44 
44 So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. 

HE DID TWO THINGS:     (AS A EXAMPLE FOR US)

• HE ACCEPTED GOD’S WILL

• HE PRAYED

 

YOU ARE CALLED TO RUN THE 2ND MILE WITHOUT WHINING & COMPLAINING

 

2. YOU ARE CALLED TO RUN THE 2ND MILE IN PRAYER

 

PERSEVERANCE IS THE KEY IN THE 2ND MILE.

 

GOOD MARRIAGES BEGIN IN THE 1ST MILE

GREAT MARRIAGES ARE BUILT IN THE 2ND MILE.

          (CAREERS, FAMILIES, FINANCES…)

 

JESUS IGNORED THE PAIN AND WENT A LITTLE FARTHER…

 

 

3. DON’T LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE PEOPLE

 

Matthew 20:30-34
30 And behold, two blind men sitting by the road, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying, "Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!"
31 Then the multitude warned them that they should be quiet; but they cried out all the more, saying, "Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!"
32 So Jesus stood still and called them, and said, "What do you want Me to do for you?"
33 They said to Him, "Lord, that our eyes may be opened."
34 So Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes. And immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him. 

VER. 31 THE CROWD REBUKED THEM

 

IN THE 2ND MILE, IT’S IMPORTANT NOT TO LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE OPINIONS OF OTHERS.

 

THE TWO BLIND MEN BELIEVED JESUS COULD CHANGE THEIR SITUATION

THEY MADE A DECISION THEY WERE NOT GOING TO CONTINUE TO LIVE THE SAME WAY

THEY WERE DETERMINED TO GET TO JESUS.

 

REMEMBER WHEN YOU ENCOUNTER PESSIMISM AND NEGATIVE ATTITUDES OF OTHER PEOPLE THAT WE HAVE  A HIGHER SOURCE TO GO TO AND HE SAYS WE’RE GOING TO WIN!

 

THESE TWO BLIND MEN REFUSED TO LISTEN TO THOSE WHO REBUKED THEM.

THEY REFUSED TO LEAVE.

DETERMINATION AND FAITH GO A LONG WAY!

 

CONLSUSION:

 

THERE IS ALWAYS A PULL ON YOUR FAITH IN THE SECOND MILE.

 

I WANT TO ENCOURAGE YOU THAT THE FAITH TO GO THE 2ND MILE ALREADY LIES WITHIN YOU.

 

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS RESPOND TO GOD’S PULL ON YOUR FAITH.
